Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes will miss the remainder of the NFL season after suffering a torn ACL in his left knee during Sunday’s loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, the team confirmed.
The injury occurred late in the fourth quarter of the Chiefs’ 16–13 defeat at Arrowhead Stadium. Medical imaging later confirmed the severity of the damage, with the organisation stating that Mahomes is expected to undergo surgery in the coming days and will begin a long rehabilitation process aimed at returning for the next NFL season.

In a statement released Sunday night, the Chiefs said an MRI revealed a torn anterior cruciate ligament, one of the most significant injuries a football player can sustain.
“An MRI has confirmed that Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes sustained a torn ACL in his left knee in today’s game,” the team said. “Patrick and the club are currently exploring surgical options.”
The injury occurred with 1:53 remaining in the contest as Mahomes scrambled outside the pocket and was brought down from behind. He was unable to continue and was helped off the field by medical staff.

Shortly before the team’s announcement, Mahomes addressed fans directly on social media, acknowledging both the physical and emotional toll of the injury.
“Don’t know why this had to happen… it hurts,” Mahomes wrote. “But all we can do now is trust in God and attack every single day. Thank you Chiefs Kingdom for always supporting me. I will be back stronger than ever.”
The injury marks the first time in Mahomes’ career that the Chiefs have been eliminated from playoff contention.
