Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has pledged to immortalise the late Islamic scholar and Tijjaniyya leader, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, through the establishment of a foundation dedicated to promoting interfaith harmony and peaceful coexistence.
The governor made the promise on Sunday while leading a 30-member delegation on a condolence visit to the family of the late cleric at his residence in Bauchi. Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi passed away on November 27, 2025.
Governor Sani said the Kaduna State Government would constitute a committee comprising members of the Sheikh’s family, his students, and other relevant stakeholders to develop the framework and objectives of the proposed foundation.
Although Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi hailed from Bauchi State, the governor said Kaduna would honour his legacy extensively in recognition of his immense contributions to Islam, good governance, and national unity.
“The foundation will not only sustain the noble works of the late Sheikh but also implement initiatives he had planned to accomplish,” Governor Sani said.
He noted that he regularly sought counsel from the revered cleric, adding that the advice he received consistently yielded positive outcomes. He described himself as a close associate of the Sheikh’s family and pledged to continue advancing the late scholar’s mission of fostering unity among Muslims and adherents of other religions across Nigeria.
Speaking during the visit, Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Mohammed Auwal Jatau, recalled that Governor Sani was on an official trip to China when the cleric died. He disclosed that the governor immediately contacted Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, to express his condolences and also set up a special committee in Kaduna to receive sympathisers.
Responding on behalf of the family, the son of the late cleric, Khalifa Sayyid Ibrahim Dahiru Bauchi, expressed gratitude to Governor Sani for his longstanding relationship with the deceased and for the show of respect since his passing.
“This is your home,” he said, noting that the governor had sent representatives to attend the funeral prayers and later dispatched Islamic scholars to commiserate with the family.
He also thanked the Kaduna State Government for pledging to rebuild the home where Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi grew up, on behalf of the cleric’s 82 children.
The delegation included top government officials, religious leaders, and representatives of Islamic organisations from across the country, including the Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Dahiru Liman, and national leaders of Fityanul Islam of Nigeria.
