Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, has urged the nation’s security leadership to move beyond discussions and take decisive action against the country’s evolving threats, including terrorism, insurgency, banditry, and organized crime.
Speaking on Monday at the 10th Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Annual Conference 2025 in Lagos, General Musa described the event as a key platform to review the Nigerian Army’s operational readiness, professionalism, and alignment with national security priorities.
He noted that recent military operations have weakened terrorist and criminal networks in several regions but stressed that no single agency can secure the country alone. “Intelligence sharing and inter-service cooperation are fundamental to effective national defence,” he said.
The Defence Minister encouraged security agencies to maintain unity, sustain joint operations, and collaborate with all relevant stakeholders. He emphasized the need to convert strategic discussions into concrete operational results that are measurable and impactful.
While commending the Army’s accomplishments, General Musa paid tribute to fallen and wounded soldiers, including Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja and Brigadier General Oba, affirming the government’s commitment to the welfare of both serving and retired personnel.
He also lauded Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu for his extensive career from battalion and brigade commands in the North East to leading the Army, urging senior commanders to continually develop strategies to address emerging threats.
General Musa reiterated that national security remains central to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and assured that the government will continue providing policy guidance, strategic direction, and resources to maintain a professional and capable Armed Forces.
