A 25-year-old Rufus Giwa Polytechnic student, Ayodele Peter, was brutally killed in what police believe was a cult-related attack in Opomulero, Owo, Ondo State. The incident occurred shortly after the young man had been grieving the recent loss of his mother.
Investigations suggest the attack stemmed from a violent rivalry between cult groups operating within the institution. Assailants reportedly broke into Ayodele’s residence, leaving him critically injured before he was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, where he was confirmed dead.
The Ondo State Police Command, led by Commissioner Adebowale Lawal, launched a manhunt that resulted in the arrest of one suspect who has provided key information. Police operations are ongoing to apprehend other suspects. Lawal praised the swift police response and urged residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with authorities, and report suspicious activities.
