
The Abia State Boxing Championship, “Enyimba 2025”, concluded with thrilling bouts as Zoe Chibuike Okoronkwo successfully defended his Feather Weight title by defeating Nwambeke Ndubuisi via technical knockout.
In other matches, Israel Obinna Ogbodo triumphed over Udeh Chibuike, while Chinaza Ikechukwu Okoronkwo retained his Light Weight title, defeating Ede Emmanuel Peter by unanimous decision.
Speaking at the Aba Sports Club, Abia State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Nwaobilor Ananaba, highlighted Governor Alex Otti’s commitment to fostering sports development and discovering raw talents across the state.
President of the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC), Rafiu Ladipo, praised boxing as a unifying sport for Nigerians and urged all levels of government to support the sport further. Meanwhile, Abia State Director of Sports, Obioma George, described the event as the state’s first professional boxing championship.
The championship also featured the handover of a new boxing ring, procured by ex-boxer Ikechukwu Okoronkwo on behalf of the state government, marking a milestone in Abia State’s sports development initiatives.
