The Lagos State Government brought smiles to hundreds of pensioners yesterday by distributing cash and food items to retired public servants, reaffirming its commitment to those who dedicated their productive years to building the state’s public service.
The event, titled “Welfare Packages Distribution For Lagos State Pensioners”, was held at the NECA Auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja, and formed part of the state’s end-of-year support to help retirees celebrate the festive season with dignity.
For many beneficiaries, the gesture was more than material support—it was a message that their service is remembered. Mrs. Comfort Adeyemi, a retired clerical officer, said, “This is not just about rice or money. It shows the government still cares about us.”
The Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, described the retirees as “retired but not tired,” noting that their sacrifices laid the foundation for the Lagos State Public Service. He assured that the government would continue to prioritise prompt pension payments, healthcare initiatives, and welfare programmes.
The Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC), led by Mr. Babalola Obilana, emphasized that the initiative was designed to honour and appreciate retirees, ensuring they remain valued members of the public service family. He stressed that the gesture represents genuine care, inclusion, and the state’s commitment to improving the quality of life for pensioners.
The programme is a two-day exercise, with other divisions—Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos, and Epe—receiving packages to ensure equity and convenience. As the event concluded, pensioners left with a renewed sense that Lagos State respects and values its retirees, even after years of service.
