Athletic Club staged a memorable comeback to defeat Qarabag FK 3-1 and claim their first UEFA Champions League victory of the 2025-26 season, in a match highlighted by a historic record from Qarabag midfielder Leandro Andrade.

Andrade Makes European History

Qarabag took an early lead through Andrade, who capitalized on a defensive lapse between Aymeric Laporte and Aitor Paredes, slotting past Unai Simón after just 48 seconds. In doing so, Andrade became the first player in a major European competition to score in the first minute of three separate games, setting a remarkable record despite his team eventually losing.

Substitute Robert Navarro scored a stunning top-corner strike five minutes after replacing Nico Williams, giving Athletic Club the lead for the first time in the match. Moments later, a critical defensive clearance from Yuri Berchiche prevented Qarabag from equalizing when he blocked Oleksii Kashchuk on the line. Guruzeta then completed the scoring with a powerful volley, marking his third goal in three Champions League games and sealing a 3-1 victory.
