Police Service Commission Approves Promotions Across Senior and Mid-Level Ranks

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved a comprehensive promotion exercise across senior and mid-level ranks of the Nigeria Police Force, elevating officers to positions including Deputy Inspector-General (DIG), Assistant Inspectors-General (AIG), Commissioners of Police (CP), and Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP).

The exercise, which concluded on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, involved both written examinations and oral interviews at the PSC Corporate Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, and was presided over by PSC Chairman Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd).

Among the promotions, AIG Mohammed Usman Gumel was elevated to DIG. Prior to this, he oversaw the Community Policing Project (CPP) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Seven Commissioners of Police were promoted to AIG, including Ihebom Chukwuma (FCID, Abuja), Maxwell Olatokunbo (K9), Abaniwonda Olufemi (Delta State), Alonyenu Francis Idu (Bayelsa State), Lawal B. Ayodeji (AHTU, Lagos), Agene Emmanuel (FCID, Kaduna), and Vungmoh S. M. Kwaimo (Railway Command).

Thirteen Deputy Commissioners of Police were elevated to Commissioner of Police, while 30 Assistant Commissioners advanced to DCP. Additionally, 51 Chief Superintendents were promoted to Assistant Commissioners, 542 Superintendents to Chief Superintendent, 119 Deputy Superintendents to Superintendent, and 12 Assistant Superintendents to Deputy Superintendent.

In a statement, PSC Chairman Argungu congratulated the officers, urging them to embrace higher responsibilities and maintain dedication to national service, law enforcement, and protection of lives and property. He reiterated the Commission’s commitment to regular, merit-based promotions as part of best policing practices.
