Popular financial commentator and social media influencer Geh Geh has criticised Afrobeats superstar Wizkid for allegedly failing to support comedian and streamer Carter Efe, despite the success of the viral fan-made song Machala, which was created in Wizkid’s honour.
Geh Geh made the remarks in a viral video following Carter Efe’s record-breaking Twitch livestream that featured singer Davido. According to him, the moment highlighted the importance of established artistes using their influence to uplift emerging talents.
“Someone Else Will Step In”
The influencer argued that when an individual who has the power to help refuses to do so, another person will eventually rise to fill that role. He described Machala as one of the most impactful fan songs in the history of Afrobeats, noting that it was widely embraced by fans and played a significant role in boosting Carter Efe’s visibility.
Geh Geh expressed disappointment that Wizkid did not publicly acknowledge or show support for Carter Efe after the song gained massive popularity.
Rejection of ‘Humility’ Argument
Addressing claims that Wizkid’s silence could be attributed to humility or personal choice, Geh Geh dismissed such views, suggesting instead that it reflected an unwillingness to share influence and platform.
He further stated that public figures who have benefited from opportunities and mentorship have a responsibility to extend similar support to others coming up in the industry.
Comparison With Wizkid’s Early Career
Geh Geh drew comparisons with Wizkid’s early career, recalling how Banky W supported the singer by providing a platform that contributed significantly to his rise to fame. He argued that such gestures are vital in sustaining growth and goodwill within the entertainment industry.
The comments have since sparked debate online, with fans divided over whether established artistes owe emerging creatives public support.
