Taylor Swift and her mom, Andrea Swift, opened up about how the Kansas City Chiefs star, Travis Kelce, came into their lives in episode four of Disney+’s The End of an Era. The docuseries gives fans an intimate look at the beginnings of Swift’s relationship with Kelce, who proposed in August 2025.

How the Matchmaker Came Into Play

In the episode titled “Thank You for the Lovely Bouquet,” Andrea Swift revealed that she played a crucial role in introducing her daughter to Kelce. While browsing the internet, she noticed news about Kelce attending a Swift concert with a friendship bracelet and wanting to meet the singer.

“I’m looking at the headlines and perusing around on the Internet and I see that this guy came to your show and he brought a friendship bracelet and wants to meet you,” Andrea recalled.

Andrea immediately called her cousin Robin, a self-described Kansas City Chiefs expert, to learn more about Kelce. Her cousin’s glowing endorsement was the green flag Andrea needed:

“Oh my God, he is the nicest guy! And he really loves his mom,” Andrea’s cousin said. Andrea responded, laughing, “Ding, ding, ding, ding… Now, how in the world am I going to get her to meet him?”

Taylor’s First Impressions

Taylor, 36, admitted that she had been “very non-athlete” and initially wondered what she and Kelce would have in common. Her mother, however, reassured her:

“So you call me with this tone of, ‘Hey, I know you’re not gonna react well to this, but there’s a guy…’ ” Taylor recalled. Andrea added, “He’s really cute!”

The singer jokingly remembered being told by her mom to “start doing something different” and appreciated Kelce’s earnest gesture of making her a friendship bracelet—a thoughtful memento from her world.

“To me that really said a lot. So I thought that was really sweet and I liked it,” Andrea said.

From Friendship Bracelet to First Date

On their first date, Kelce had to explain football to Taylor, whom he affectionately described as “violent chess.” Taylor quickly became fascinated with the sport, marking the beginning of a deep personal connection that blended her world with his.

Both Taylor and Andrea highlighted how Kelce brought joy and positivity into her life, especially after two difficult public breakups earlier in the tour.

“He just brought a lot of happiness, which is, I think, what he does in a lot of his circles,” Andrea said.

The relationship culminated in Kelce proposing in August 2025. Swift and Kelce shared the news on Instagram with the caption:
