Federal University Lokoja Mourns 200-Level Biotechnology Student Killed by Snake Bite

The Federal University Lokoja (FUL) in Kogi State has been thrown into mourning following the death of Favour, a 200-Level Biotechnology student, who reportedly died after being bitten by a snake.

The tragic incident occurred on Thursday night at Itakeate Isao under circumstances that are still being discussed within the university community. Favour was immediately rushed to Isanlu General Hospital for urgent medical attention, but despite efforts to save her, she could not survive.

The university’s Students’ Union Government (SUG) confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, Comrade Baye, describing the loss as “painful and devastating to students and staff alike.”

“With deep pain and heavy hearts, we sadly announce the passing of Favour, a 200-Level student of Biotechnology,” the SUG statement read.

News of her death quickly spread across campus, eliciting shock, sorrow, and an outpouring of condolences from students, lecturers, and university officials. The SUG expressed sympathy to the bereaved family, friends, classmates, and coursemates in the Department of Biotechnology, emphasizing that the loss would be deeply felt across the university.

“This loss is heartbreaking and difficult to accept. Our hearts go out to her family, friends, and coursemates during this moment of grief,” the statement added.

The SUG also urged students to remain calm and supportive of one another during the mourning period, while calling on the university management and relevant authorities to address safety concerns in and around student residential areas.

The statement concluded with prayers for the deceased and for those left behind. “May God grant them strength, and may Favour’s gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” it said.
