MercadoLibre Partners with Casas Bahia to Expand Product Offerings in Brazil

MercadoLibre and Casas Bahia Announce Strategic Partnership to Boost E-Commerce in Brazil

SAO PAULO, October 23, 2025 — Latin American e-commerce giant MercadoLibre (MELI.O) announced a new long-term commercial partnership with Brazilian retail leader Casas Bahia (BHIA3.SA) that will allow MercadoLibre to sell Casas Bahia’s products directly on its platform starting in November 2025.

The collaboration marks a significant milestone in Brazil’s rapidly evolving online retail market, combining MercadoLibre’s powerful digital ecosystem with Casas Bahia’s deep expertise in electronics, furniture, and home appliances — key consumer segments in Brazil.

“We see enormous synergy in this partnership. Casas Bahia has unmatched leadership and scale in home appliances, electronics, and furniture,” said Fernando Yunes, MercadoLibre’s e-commerce head for Brazil.

Expanding Reach Across Brazil’s E-Commerce Landscape

This new alliance is expected to expand MercadoLibre’s market share in its largest market, Brazil, particularly in categories where the company has traditionally been weaker — such as large home appliances and consumer electronics.

While MercadoLibre’s third-party marketplace model has made it Latin America’s most valuable company by market capitalization, it has struggled to replicate its success in high-value physical goods like TVs, washing machines, and refrigerators.

Casas Bahia, on the other hand, is one of Brazil’s most trusted and established retailers, operating over 1,000 physical stores and maintaining a strong logistics network for large-item delivery.

Under the new arrangement, Casas Bahia will manage most of the shipping logistics, leveraging its established expertise in transporting large products, while MercadoLibre will provide the digital storefront and payment ecosystem through its leading marketplace platform.

Boosting Sales and Strengthening Competitive Edge

The partnership comes as Brazil’s e-commerce market becomes increasingly competitive, with global and regional players like Amazon (AMZN.O), Shopee (SE.N), AliExpress, and Magazine Luiza (MGLU3.SA) intensifying promotional campaigns and expanding free-shipping policies to attract consumers.

Casas Bahia’s CEO Renato Franklin highlighted the strategic importance of the deal for the retailer’s transformation plan:

“This partnership marks our entry into a digital channel that continues to grow significantly and will help us accelerate sales recovery as we advance our restructuring process.”

Casas Bahia has been undergoing an extensive debt and operational restructuring since 2023, and this collaboration with MercadoLibre is expected to provide a strong sales lift and improved cash flow through higher digital exposure.

Strategic Synergy Between Two Retail Powerhouses

MercadoLibre operates one of the largest online marketplaces in Latin America, with a strong focus on third-party sales and integrated financial services through Mercado Pago. By teaming up with Casas Bahia — a retail giant with a powerful brick-and-mortar and delivery network — both companies aim to capture new market opportunities and provide a seamless omnichannel experience to Brazilian consumers.

For MercadoLibre, the partnership could help the company bridge a critical gap in its Brazilian operations. Currently, its market share in large home appliances is only about one-fourth of its average across other product categories, according to Yunes. The inclusion of Casas Bahia’s catalog is expected to dramatically improve that position.

Strengthening Brazil’s E-Commerce Ecosystem

This collaboration is also part of a broader trend among Brazilian retailers seeking cross-platform partnerships to drive growth and customer retention. In 2024, Magazine Luiza partnered with AliExpress, allowing both firms to sell each other’s products and reach new consumer segments.

By joining forces, MercadoLibre and Casas Bahia are not just expanding their product portfolios but also setting the stage for a new era of digital retail integration in Brazil. The deal highlights how local and regional partnerships are shaping the future of Latin American e-commerce, where logistics, product diversity, and customer experience are key differentiators.
