Lagos Police Arrest FIJ Journalist’s Wife and Nine-Month-Old Baby

The Lagos State Police Command has reportedly arrested Adenike Atanda, the wife of Sodeeq Atanda, a senior reporter with the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), along with their nine-month-old baby.

According to FIJ, the arrest occurred on Monday evening in the Owutu area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, after police officers tracked the family to their neighbourhood.

Confirming the development, FIJ stated that officers of the Nigeria Police Force apprehended Atanda’s wife and infant despite neither of them being journalists.

The organisation said that, as of the time of filing the report, it had not been informed of any offence committed by either Adenike Atanda or her child.

FIJ has raised concerns over the arrest, noting the absence of clarity regarding the legal basis for the action.
