The Jigawa State Command of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has taken custody of six individuals intercepted by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in a suspected human trafficking case.
The victims were handed over to NAPTIP at the Babura Plantation Border Patrol Base in Babura Local Government Area. NAPTIP Commander, Mr. Abdulkadir Turajo, confirmed that the group consisted of two men and four women, aged between 32 and 36, originating from Ogun, Imo, Lagos, and Enugu states.
The victims were intercepted on Monday while reportedly en route to Europe via Libya and the Niger Republic. Turajo assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted to determine whether the individuals are victims, agents, or accomplices.
He also urged the public to remain vigilant, especially during the festive season, warning against fraudulent offers that traffickers often use to exploit unsuspecting individuals.
“We commend the Nigeria Immigration Service for its sustained partnership and collaboration, which has strengthened the fight against human trafficking in the state,” Turajo added.
