The China Mining Federation of Nigeria has refuted recent reports alleging that Chinese companies are engaging in illegal mining, environmental degradation, or links to terrorism in the country, calling the claims “false and misleading.”
In a statement on Tuesday, the federation clarified that Chinese firms operating in Nigeria have themselves been victims of terrorist attacks and have consistently cooperated with the Federal Government to maintain security in mining areas.
The statement emphasized that Chinese mining companies comply fully with Nigerian laws and regulations and work closely with authorities to strengthen governance in the sector. The firms have invested in local processing facilities, created jobs for Nigerians, and contributed to community development and environmental protection initiatives.
The federation urged Nigerian media and the public to report fairly on Chinese mining activities, warning that misinformation could harm bilateral relations. It reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with the Nigerian government to support sustainable growth and mutual benefits in the mining sector.
