“I Told Tinubu Adelabu Lacks Capacity to Organize APC in Oyo” – Governor Makinde Reveals

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has disclosed that he told President Bola Tinubu that the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, lacks the capacity to organize the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State.

Makinde, who belongs to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made the revelation during a media chat with journalists on Tuesday. The conversation, he said, took place during a private meeting with President Tinubu, where they discussed the approval of the Ibadan Airport upgrade project.

The Discussion on Political Matters

During the meeting, Makinde explained, President Tinubu raised a political topic, asking, “What is happening politically? I heard you are upset that your nominee was not given the ministerial slot.”

Makinde responded by assuring the President that he was not upset about the ministerial appointments. He clarified that, as President, Tinubu had the sole right to select his cabinet members. “I said, sir, in Yoruba land, if you don’t want a pregnancy to be aborted, you won’t want the baby to die, because it is easier to abort a pregnancy than to kill a baby,” Makinde said, explaining that political leaders can only recommend candidates, but the ultimate decision lies with the President.

Direct Comments on Adelabu’s Political Role

However, the conversation took a sharp turn when Makinde directly addressed the role of Adebayo Adelabu in Oyo State. “If you have selected the Minister of Power (Bayo Adelabu) because you want him to help you organise the APC in Oyo State, he doesn’t have the capacity,” the governor told Tinubu.

Makinde further recounted that the President’s response caught him by surprise. Tinubu reportedly suggested that he wanted Makinde himself to help organize the APC in the state.

Firm Rejection of the Offer

The Oyo Governor was clear in his response, firmly rejecting the proposal. “He said, Seyi, it is you that I want to help me organise the APC in Oyo State. I said no, sir, I can never help you organise the APC in Oyo State because I am of the PDP,” Makinde stated.Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has disclosed that he told President Bola Tinubu that the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, lacks the capacity to organize the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State.
