Lawmaker Empowers Youths and Traders in Somolu Constituency

To enhance the livelihoods of his constituents, Abiodun Orekoya, the lawmaker representing Somolu Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, recently hosted an empowerment programme aimed at improving economic independence and entrepreneurship.

The event, which attracted artisans, traders, youths, and small business owners from across the constituency, involved the distribution of vocational tools, equipment, and cash grants. Among the items provided were grinding machines, sewing machines, deep freezers, makeup kits, barbing kits complete with generators, hair dryers, printers, ovens, gas cylinders with cartons of noodles, and mini buses (locally known as ‘Korope’) for six commercial drivers.

Additionally, food vendors were given cash grants of N100,000 each to help expand their businesses, while petty traders and market vendors received N50,000 grants. The initiative was designed to empower local businesses and individuals to become more self-sufficient.

Orekoya explained that this initiative was part of his ongoing commitment to fostering economic independence, skill acquisition, and entrepreneurship within the constituency.

He encouraged the beneficiaries to use the tools and financial support wisely, assuring others that more empowerment programmes would be rolled out to benefit a broader range of residents in the future.
