Wales international Tomos Williams will join Saracens next season, following his departure from Gloucester Rugby at the end of the 2025-26 campaign. The 30-year-old scrum-half has been a standout performer for the Cherry and Whites since signing in 2024, earning the Premiership Player of the Season award in June and captaining Gloucester this term.
Gloucester confirmed Williams’ exit earlier in December, with Saracens officially announcing his arrival on Christmas Day 2025.
“Tomos is a player we have rated very highly for a long time, and we believe he will be an outstanding addition to our squad,” Saracens said in a statement. “He is a world-class operator, and we are hugely excited to see him pull on a Saracens shirt next season.”
Williams’ Reaction
Williams expressed his excitement at joining the London-based club. “I’m really excited to be joining Saracens, a club I have always admired. There are great coaches and players at the club, and I’m looking forward to joining them in the summer,” he said.
Career Highlights
Williams has had a distinguished career, starting at Gloucester before moving to Wasps, where he spent seven seasons until the club’s demise in 2022. He then played three seasons in the French Top 14 with Pau, further honing his skills at scrum-half. Over his career at Gloucester, he made 80 appearances and was widely regarded as one of the Premiership’s elite half-backs.
He was also selected for the 2025 British & Irish Lions tour, scoring two tries in a pre-tour warm-up against Argentina. Unfortunately, a hamstring injury in the first game on Australian soil forced him to return home early.
Impact on Gloucester
Williams’ departure comes as Gloucester strengthen their squad with the arrival of Wales teammates Jac Morgan and Dewi Lake from Ospreys for the 2025-26 season. Gloucester also confirmed that former academy graduate Dan Robson, now 33, will return to Kingsholm next season, marking a decade since he left the club in 2015.
Gloucester’s official statement emphasized Williams’ professionalism and contribution to the club: “After impressing at Kingsholm, Williams was offered a new deal to stay beyond the end of the season but has opted to pursue a new challenge elsewhere. He will depart with the best wishes of everyone at the club, and in the meantime, he remains entirely dedicated to ending his time at Gloucester Rugby on a high.”
Looking Ahead at Saracens
Williams’ arrival at Saracens is expected to bolster their squad as the club seeks success in Premiership Rugby and European competitions. His experience, leadership, and technical ability at scrum-half will provide invaluable depth alongside the club’s existing stars.
As Saracens prepare for the 2026 season, Williams’ signing signals their intent to compete at the highest level while adding a proven international talent to their ranks.
