The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) Zamfara State Chapter has announced that 11 out of the 18 registered political parties in the state will participate in the upcoming local government elections scheduled for November 16. This disclosure was made by the state chairman of IPAC, Alhaji Isah Moriki, during a press briefing held in Gusau on Tuesday.
Moriki, who also serves as the state chairman of the National Rescue Movement (NRM), revealed that the political parties, under the umbrella of IPAC, had finalized their preparations for the elections. Despite this, the All Progressives Congress (APC), which is the leading opposition party in the state, had filed a case at the Federal High Court in Gusau against the Zamfara State Independent Electoral Commission (ZASIEC). The APC’s legal action centers on allegations of irregularities in the electoral process.
Moriki elaborated that IPAC had recently held a meeting with the leadership of ZASIEC. During the meeting, the chairman of the commission briefed the IPAC members on their plans for the elections. The ZASIEC assured that it would ensure a free, fair, and credible election process. Moriki expressed satisfaction with the commission’s commitment, stating that IPAC believes all necessary arrangements for the elections had been made in accordance with the law.
He listed the political parties that will participate in the elections, which include the New Nigeria People Party (NNPP), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), National Rescue Movement (NRM), Young Progressive Party (YPP), Alliance Peoples Movement (APM), and All Peoples Party (APP). Additionally, other parties confirmed to participate are the African Action Congress (AAC), Labour Party (LP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), and the Youth Party (YP).
Moriki affirmed that IPAC is confident in the preparedness of ZASIEC and fully supports the electoral body’s efforts to conduct the local government elections in a transparent and lawful manner.
