Len Ikitau Out for Up to Three Months with Shoulder Injury

Exeter Chiefs centre Len Ikitau is set to be sidelined for up to three months after sustaining a shoulder injury in last week’s win over Saracens. The 27-year-old is scheduled for surgery and is expected to miss the remainder of the festive period and the early block of Six Nations fixtures, potentially returning in March.

High-Profile Summer Signing Faces Setback

Ikitau joined Exeter this season on a one-year deal, making him one of the club’s most high-profile acquisitions. The Wallabies international impressed in the Rugby Championship and during the British and Irish Lions tour over the summer, forming a strong midfield partnership with England’s Henry Slade.

His performances have helped Exeter climb to second place in the Premiership, and he scored his first try for the club earlier this month against the Cheetahs in the European Challenge Cup.

Exeter Director of Rugby Comments

Exeter’s director of rugby, Rob Baxter, said:

“The good news is that we can get him in for the operation quickly, though it does mean he will miss the block of games over the festive period and into the cup competitions in the new year.
It’s very unfortunate for Len, who has been playing out of his skin for us and was in outstanding form. It’s a shame for him and a shame for us because he’s been an important part of what we’ve achieved so far this season.
After a long period of intense rugby, it will give him a bit of a break and allow his body to recover and refresh. Hopefully, he can have a big end-of-season impact, and we’ll remain in contention for success or silverware.”

Impact on Exeter Chiefs

Ikitau’s absence is a significant blow for Exeter, who rely on his creativity and defensive solidity in the midfield. With the Premiership and European competitions ongoing, the Chiefs will need other centres to step up while he recovers.
