Kolkata, West Bengal – In the run-up to the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee announced plans for a month-long statewide campaign, which will include rallies, roadshows, and interactions with local communities across Bengal. The campaign is scheduled to begin from January 2, signaling the party’s concerted effort to mobilize support at the grassroots level.
Banerjee, who represents Diamond Harbor in Parliament and is a key strategist for the TMC, revealed that the campaign will be named “Jotoi Koro Hamla, Abar Jitbe Bangla” — which translates to “No matter how much you attack, Bengal will win again”. The slogan encapsulates the party’s determination to rally public sentiment against what it describes as targeted attacks on Bengal by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
According to Banerjee, the campaign will kick off with a rally at Baruipur in South 24 Parganas on January 2, followed by a visit to north Bengal on January 3, where he plans to hold community interactions with workers from tea gardens in Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar. He emphasized that the outreach will cover diverse sections of the population, combining both high-profile rallies and smaller, localized engagements with voters.
Addressing the ongoing political and administrative issues, Banerjee accused the BJP of attempting to marginalize Bengal through various measures. “Central funds are being stopped, Bengali icons are being disrespected, and Bengali speakers are being targeted in BJP-ruled states. With the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, the BJP aims to snatch away the voting rights of the people of Bengal. The people of Bengal will raise their voice against this and demonstrate their strength,” he said.
The TMC leader’s announcement comes shortly after the launch of two initiatives — Banglar Samarthane Sanjog and Unnayaner Sanlap — aimed at strengthening grassroots engagement ahead of the elections. Under these initiatives, the TMC plans to connect with around 1,800 local influencers, disseminate the state government’s report card, and carry out booth-level outreach to consolidate voter support.
The assembly elections in West Bengal are expected to be announced in February 2026, after the SIR process concludes and the final electoral rolls are published. The campaign is intended to create momentum in favor of the TMC, which will complete 15 years in government in May 2026. Earlier this month, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee released a state government report card titled “Unnayaner Panchali”, highlighting the achievements of her administration over the past decade and a half.
With the political environment intensifying, Banerjee’s campaign aims to energize party workers, reinforce public support, and address the challenges posed by opposition parties. The combination of rallies, roadshows, and direct community interactions is expected to serve as the central strategy for TMC’s mobilization efforts in the coming weeks.
