Dense Fog Engulfs North India, Airlines Issue Travel Advisories

North India was blanketed in dense fog on Monday, prompting airlines including IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Air India to issue travel advisories as flight operations were disrupted across several airports.

Air India warned that departures and arrivals might be affected on Tuesday, December 30, due to poor visibility caused by adverse weather. The advisory covered cities including Delhi, Amritsar, Jammu, Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Darbhanga, Patna, Guwahati, and Bagdogra. The airline urged passengers to monitor flight status and plan their travel accordingly.

IndiGo, still recovering from the mass flight cancellations earlier this month, also issued an advisory noting that fog is expected to intensify late at night and continue into the morning, reducing visibility across multiple northern airports. The airline highlighted that this may affect both flight operations and road travel, advising travelers to allow extra time for reaching airports.

Earlier on Monday, IndiGo had cancelled around 80 flights due to bad weather. Of these, about half were from Delhi airport, while the rest included flights to and from Mumbai, Bengaluru, Cochin, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Dehradun, Indore, Patna, and Bhopal.

By mid-morning, the airline reported that foggy conditions were persisting across northern India, likely extending flight delays into the noon hours. IndiGo assured passengers that departures and arrivals were being sequenced carefullyto maintain orderly operations and minimize disruptions.

Passengers were advised to stay updated through airline communications and airport notices, as poor visibility may continue to affect both air and road travel in the region.

This dense fog episode highlights the recurring challenges faced by airlines and travelers during winter months in northern India, when early morning and late-night operations are particularly vulnerable to weather-related disruptions.
