As Delhi gears up to welcome 2026, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued advisories for several key areas to manage the expected surge in vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Commuters are advised to plan their routes carefully and follow traffic instructions to avoid delays.
Key Areas with Restrictions
Connaught Place
With large crowds anticipated, significant vehicle restrictions have been imposed:
- Areas affected include Mandi House, Bengali Market, North Foot of Ranjit Singh Flyover, Minto Road, and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg Crossing.
- Restrictions are in force from 7:00 pm on December 31 until the end of the celebrations.
- No vehicles will be allowed in the Inner, Middle, or Outer Circle of Connaught Place, except those with valid entry passes.
- Parking is allowed at designated locations such as Kali Bari Marg, Pt. Pant Marg, and Bhai Veer Singh Marg.
- Old Delhi Railway Station remains unaffected; motorists can use the Second Entry Gate at Ajmeri Gate and reach the station via Paharganj.
- Alternative routes have been suggested for north-south and east-west traffic movement to ease congestion.
India Gate
Heavy pedestrian movement has prompted vehicle restrictions in areas around India Gate, including:
- Q-point, Mandi House, Mathura Road to Purana Qila, and Sunheri Masjid Road.
Saket (South Delhi)
Traffic advisories have been issued for roads in Saket and Pushp Vihar:
- Press Enclave Road and internal roads will experience diversions and restrictions.
- Diversion points include Sheikh Sarai red light, Asian Market red light, and PTS Malviya Nagar red light.
- Entry of heavy vehicles and DTC buses is restricted on Press Enclave Road and Pushp Vihar.
- Commuters travelling from Chirag Delhi to Qutub Minar are advised to use the alternative route via Kanpur Road.
Paharganj
Around Shri Mata Jhandewalan Mandir, large crowds are expected, affecting roads including Rani Jhansi Road.
- Motorists are advised to avoid Rani Jhansi Road during peak hours.
- Alternative routes include DBG Road, New Rohtak Road, and adjoining streets.
Advisory Duration
- Restrictions for Paharganj and Saket will be in effect on December 31 and January 1.
- Commuters are encouraged to plan trips in advance and follow official traffic updates.
