Victor Abang, the House of Representatives member representing Boki–Ikom Federal Constituency in Cross River State, has presented his midterm report to constituents and distributed Christmas gifts worth N48 million across his constituency.
The presentation took place during town hall meetings and briefings, with Abang explaining that the exercise was meant to promote transparency, strengthen accountability, and allow constituents to assess his performance in office. He added that the initiative also helps counter misinformation, particularly on social media, by providing verifiable updates on legislative and constituency activities.
Highlighting his key achievements, Abang noted that his interventions had expanded telecommunications coverage to 35 rural communities, improving communication and boosting local economic activity.
On border security, he recalled sponsoring a motion on July 5, 2023, addressing the Nigeria–Cameroon boundary dispute. His efforts led to the formation of an ad hoc committee and prompted the Federal Government to halt a potentially detrimental demarcation exercise that could have cost Nigeria over 10,000 hectares of land, including parts of Biajua and Danare communities.
In the health sector, Abang facilitated the provision of medical equipment worth over N300 million to the Primary Health Centre in Abo Ebam and supported the Federal Medical Centre in the constituency.
Abang also sponsored the National Park Service Amendment Bill to establish the Okwangwo National Park Unit, which aims to strengthen conservation, create jobs, and promote eco-tourism benefits for host communities.
Additionally, he unveiled a compendium of his legislative and constituency work titled The Banjuere, documenting projects from his first two years, including the construction of a mini-stadium, expansion of telecom infrastructure, and health interventions.
The N48 million Christmas gift distribution underscores his commitment to providing democratic dividends and alleviating economic pressures on constituents during the festive season. Abang assured residents that further bills, motions, and constituency projects are in the pipeline.
