Jamui, Bihar: In a heart-wrenching incident, a woman and her three children allegedly jumped into a well in Chhapardeeh village, located under the Sono police station limits of Bihar’s Jamui district on Thursday evening, police reported. The incident reportedly stemmed from a property dispute within the family, though details remain under investigation.
Local residents rushed to the scene after hearing cries for help and managed to rescue the woman along with one of her children. Tragically, the other two children, a five-year-old boy and a five-year-old girl, could not be saved and died at the spot, authorities said.
The rescued victims were immediately taken to Jamui district hospital. Police officials stated that the woman and her surviving child are currently in critical condition. The woman has been identified as Rubeshan Khatun, aged 32, wife of Shamsher Ansari, who works in Surat, Gujarat.
Preliminary reports indicate that the incident may have resulted from a family property dispute, although Rubeshan Khatun’s father-in-law claimed that the three children accidentally slipped into the well. Police are awaiting the woman’s statement, which will be recorded once she regains consciousness, to ascertain the circumstances leading to the tragedy.
The Station House Officer, Dharmendra Kumar, confirmed that the family had refused post-mortem examinations, but an Unnatural Death (UD) case has been registered. Authorities are investigating all angles, including the possibility of a deliberate act versus an accident, to determine the exact cause of this unfortunate incident.
This incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting ongoing family and property disputes that can escalate into tragic outcomes. Police continue to investigate and provide updates on the condition of the survivors and the progress of the case.
