Brighton & Hove Albion have confirmed the return of experienced midfielder Pascal Gross from Borussia Dortmund on a contract running until June 2027. The 34-year-old Germany international brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the Seagulls’ squad for the second half of the Premier League 2025-26 season.
Gross initially joined Brighton in 2017 from FC Ingolstadt, making 261 appearances before leaving for Dortmund 18 months ago in a deal reportedly worth around £8 million. During his time in Germany, he featured 66 times for the Bundesliga side, scoring once and registering 17 assists.
Brighton Head Coach Praises Gross
Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler welcomed Gross back to the club, emphasizing both his technical ability and leadership qualities.
“We are really pleased to have Pascal back with us,” Hurzeler said. “He’s a fantastic player and someone I know well and was looking forward to working with when I first came to the club. Brighton fans know his attributes, but he brings great leadership qualities to the group. Those qualities, along with his experience and ability, will be a huge asset in the second half of the season.”
Gross’ return is expected to strengthen Brighton’s midfield options as they aim to improve their league position and maintain competitiveness in the Premier League.
Gross’ First Brighton Spell
During his first stint at Brighton, Gross played a pivotal role in the club’s historic achievements. He helped the Seagulls secure their highest-ever league finish, ending the 2022-23 campaign in sixth place and earning a European competition spot.
Over seven seasons, Gross made 228 Premier League appearances, scoring 30 goals and providing 45 assists. His leadership and creative ability were key to Brighton’s rise as a competitive Premier League side.
Upon leaving for Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2024, Gross wrote a heartfelt farewell to Brighton fans, saying he was departing with a “heavy heart” but felt he would regret not joining his boyhood club.
International Experience
Gross has also been capped 16 times for Germany, bringing international experience that will be invaluable for Brighton as they navigate the challenges of the Premier League’s second half of the season.
His return represents a significant boost for Brighton, both on and off the pitch, combining technical skill, leadership, and experience in top-flight football.
