Comedian Nikki Glaser is returning to the Golden Globes stage for the second consecutive year, and she’s already thinking carefully about her jokes. The 41-year-old comic shared with People how she plans to approach the 2026 show, which promises bigger star power, more high-profile films, and new targets for her signature humor.
Preparing for the 2026 Golden Globes
Glaser, who first hosted the Golden Globes in 2025, described her upcoming return as “lots to joke about this year — and the star power in the room is going to be bigger than ever.” She added, “I kind of have to keep wrapping my head around the kind of people that are going to be present in this room.”
Among this year’s nominees, Leonardo DiCaprio stands out. His latest film, One Battle After Another, led the movie nominations. Glaser joked, “I mean, Leo’s vape pen is going to be there. So excited to see that.” She also teased that the rise of podcasts in Hollywood this year will provide plenty of comedic material.
What Jokes Are Off-Limits
While Glaser is known for her fearless, edgy humor, she revealed that some material is off-limits — including overused jokes about Leonardo DiCaprio. “I don’t think I’m going to go with the Leo jokes we’ve heard 25 times,” she said. “I think we’ve all heard that — that’s been done enough.”
Her goal, she explained, is to avoid predictable jokes and challenge herself creatively: “My goal is always to try to not do what’s expected… and try something else.” While DiCaprio will remain a potential target, Glaser emphasized she wants to make fun without being disrespectful. “He’s a legend and was incredible in One Battle After Another. As long as I really like these people and respect what they do, I can get away with saying something negative.”
The Fine Line Between Mockery and Admiration
Glaser’s comedic philosophy relies on authenticity. She said audiences can tell when a joke comes from genuine admiration versus when it feels forced: “People can tell if I’m lying and being like, ‘I’m such a fan!’ and then I say something a little bit critical. But when I’m really a fan… that’s when I can go a bit harder, because it really does come from a place of love and knowing that I’m nothing compared to you.”
Looking Back at Her First Golden Globes
The news of Glaser’s return was first announced in March 2025. Reflecting on her first time hosting, she described it as “without a doubt the most fun I have ever had in my career.” She’s excited to return this year, especially with the cast of The White Lotus in attendance. “They will finally recognize my talent and cast me in season 4 as a Scandinavian Pilates instructor with a shadowy past,” she joked.
When and Where to Watch
The 83rd annual Golden Globe Awards will take place on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. The ceremony will air on CBS and stream on Paramount+ at 8 p.m. EST. Fans can expect Glaser’s sharp wit, celebrity roasting, and plenty of memorable moments.
