George Clooney Teases “Ocean’s 14”: Old but Clever Heist Crew Returns

The iconic Ocean’s Eleven gang is gearing up for a new adventure. George Clooney recently offered fresh details about Ocean’s 14, the upcoming sequel to the hit heist franchise that began in 2001. According to Clooney, the returning characters will be older and “too old to do what we used to do,” but “still smart enough to know how to get away with something.”

The Original Cast Returns

Ocean’s 14 promises to reunite much of the original star-studded cast, including:

  • George Clooney as Danny Ocean, the mastermind of the heist crew
  • Brad Pitt as Rusty Ryan, Danny’s right-hand man
  • Matt Damon as Linus Caldwell, the pickpocket and con artist
  • Don Cheadle as Basher Tarr, the demolitions expert
  • Julia Roberts as Tess Ocean, Danny’s love interest

In a recent interview with Variety, Clooney explained the appeal of revisiting the franchise:

“There was something about the idea that we’re too old to do what we used to do, but we’re still smart enough to know how to get away with something, that just appeals to me.”

He added that the characters have “lost a step” in this installment, and much of the plot will revolve around how they “work around their limitations” while planning their signature heist.

Inspiration and Tone

The upcoming sequel will draw inspiration from Martin Brest’s 1979 film Going in Style, which tells the story of senior citizens pulling off a bank heist. The movie was later remade in 2017 starring Martin Freeman, Alan Arkin, and Michael Caine. Clooney noted that the concept of older, clever criminals offers both humor and nostalgia, making it a natural fit for the Ocean’s franchise.

Like its predecessors, Ocean’s 14 will combine clever heists, witty dialogue, and a charismatic ensemble cast. It continues the franchise’s legacy of smart, stylish capers while exploring themes of aging, friendship, and ingenuity.

Production Updates

Clooney confirmed that Warner Bros. recently approved the budget for Ocean’s 14, and the production team is currently finalizing the filming schedule. According to Variety, shooting is expected to begin next October, pending cast availability.

“It’s just scheduling, so it’s just setting a start date for us,” Clooney told E! News.

The Ocean’s Legacy

The original trilogy (Ocean’s Eleven, Ocean’s Twelve, and Ocean’s Thirteen) introduced audiences to a world of sophisticated heists, clever cons, and unforgettable camaraderie. In 2018, the franchise expanded with Ocean’s 8, a spin-off featuring Sandra Bullock as Debbie Ocean, Danny’s sister, alongside Cate Blanchett, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Mindy Kaling, and Anne Hathaway.

Additionally, a prequel focusing on Danny Ocean’s parents, starring and produced by Margot Robbie, is currently in development, expanding the Ocean’s universe further.

Clooney’s Current Projects

Outside the Ocean’s franchise, George Clooney continues to stay busy. He stars in Noah Baumbach’s Netflix film Jay Kelly, co-starring Adam Sandler, Laura Dern, Greta Gerwig, and Riley Keough. He is also set to appear in Netflix’s upcoming French movie Dix Pour Cent (Call My Agent!). Clooney, who recently received French citizenship with his wife Amal and their children Alexander and Ella, remains active in both Hollywood and international cinema.
