Imo State Governor and Chairman of the South East Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma, visited Abia State Governor Alex Otti on Friday, in what he described as a friendly, non-political visit.
The visit came three days after APC chieftain Henry Ikoh also met Otti, praising the Abia governor for his developmental achievements.
Addressing reporters, Uzodimma emphasized that his visit was in the spirit of the New Year and aimed at fostering collaboration among South East governors, regardless of political differences.
“My visit is a courtesy call to the Governor. I wished him a happy New Year and prayed for strength to continue to serve our people,” Uzodimma said.
“The South East Governors are determined to work together for the development of the region, and that requires collaboration.”
As chairman of both the South East Governors’ Forum and the Progressive Governors Forum, Uzodimma commended Otti for his governance in Abia State and highlighted the importance of unity in driving regional progress.
Governor Otti, the only Labour Party governor, echoed that the visit was not politically motivated. He noted that political affiliation should not be confused with opposition, emphasizing that all tiers of government—national, sub-national, and local—must work together.
“You can disagree, but once a decision is taken, you are part of that decision,” Otti said.
“We are all part of the same government, and this visit was simply to exchange greetings for the New Year.”
Uzodimma was accompanied by former Imo governor Ikedi Ohakim and other officials, while Otti’s Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, and other cabinet members were also present.
Despite efforts by multiple political parties, including the PDP, APC, and APGA, to woo him away from the Labour Party, Otti has reaffirmed his commitment to the LP, stating he would only consider leaving if internal leadership conflicts became irresolvable.
