Commuters along the Danjibga–Kuncin Kalgo road in Tsafe LGA, Zamfara State, were attacked by bandits on Friday, who burned two vehicles and abducted all passengers on board.
Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants blocked the road before launching the attack. As of Saturday, the whereabouts of the victims remain unknown, raising concerns over road security in the state.
The incident was confirmed by the Bakatsine security alert platform, highlighting the persistent insecurity on major highways in Zamfara. This attack comes shortly after an IED explosion on December 27 along the Magami–Dansadau axis that claimed at least eight lives and caused widespread panic.
Following the earlier attack, Nigerian security forces conducted emergency clearance operations, deploying Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams, military personnel, and the Joint Task Force under Operation Fansa-Yamma to secure the highway. Despite these measures, the Friday attack underscores the continuing risks for travellers in the region.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity as investigations continue.
