Tottenham Hotspur Sign Chelsea’s Maika Hamano on Loan Until June 2026

Tottenham Hotspur have officially secured the services of Maika Hamano from Chelsea on a loan deal until the end of the 2025-26 season. The 21-year-old Japanese international is eager for regular playing time and aims to make a significant impact at Spurs after demonstrating her potential at Chelsea since joining the club in 2023.

Versatile Midfielder and Attacking Talent

Hamano, who can operate both in midfield and attack, is primarily deployed as a winger for the Japan women’s national team. Known for her technical skills, agility, and vision on the pitch, she has already accumulated 45 appearances for Chelsea, including seven matches during the current season. Notably, she was also part of the Japan squad at the 2023 Women’s World Cup, gaining invaluable international experience.

Speaking about her move to Tottenham, Hamano said:

“Watching the team this season, I really felt they’ve been playing some great football and I thought I could develop a lot as a player. I want to show fans the connection with my teammates. At the end of the day, football is about winning, and I’ll do my best to contribute to the team’s success.”

Tottenham Women’s Busy Transfer Window

Hamano joins Spurs during a busy January transfer window that has already seen the arrivals of Matilda Nilden, Hanna Wijk, and Signe Gaupset. With these signings, Tottenham are strengthening their squad depth and aiming to challenge for higher positions in the Women’s Super League (WSL) this season.

The addition of Hamano is expected to boost Spurs’ attacking options on the wings, while her versatility allows manager Robert Vilahiro (or the current Spurs women’s manager, update if necessary) to experiment with different formations and tactical setups. Fans will be eager to see how Hamano’s international experience translates into the WSL and contributes to Tottenham’s ambitions.

Looking Ahead

With her technical ability, pace, and creativity, Maika Hamano is a player to watch as she begins her loan spell at Tottenham. Her arrival signals the club’s intent to compete at the top level and nurture emerging talent, particularly players who can influence games in multiple positions.

As the WSL 2025-26 season progresses, all eyes will be on Hamano to see how quickly she adapts to her new surroundings and whether she can help Spurs achieve crucial results in the second half of the season.
