President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered Nigeria’s security agencies to intensify efforts to track down and arrest the terrorists responsible for the recent attack on Kasuwan Daji in Niger State and to ensure the safe rescue of all abducted victims.
The directive, issued on Sunday, instructed the military, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Department of State Services (DSS) to launch coordinated operations against the attackers. The President specifically mandated the Minister of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Service Chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Director-General of the DSS to take immediate action.
The order was conveyed in a statement signed on January 4, 2026, by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
The attack on Kasuwan Daji, which occurred amid escalating terrorist activities in Niger State, reportedly led to the killing of several villagers and the abduction of women and children. According to the statement, intelligence suggested that the assailants may have been fleeing from Sokoto and Zamfara states following a U.S. air strike carried out on Christmas Eve.
Condemning the incident, President Tinubu described the attack as a direct challenge to the nation’s resolve and vowed that those responsible would be brought to justice.
“These terrorists have tested the resolve of our country and its people. They must face the full consequences of their criminal actions. No matter who they are or their intent, they must be hunted down,” the President said.
He further warned that anyone who aids, abets, or supports the terrorists in any form would also be held accountable.
President Tinubu extended his condolences to the families of the victims and to the government and people of Niger State. He also assured Nigerians that security agencies have been directed to reinforce protection around vulnerable communities, particularly those near forested areas often used as hideouts by criminal groups.
Calling for national unity, the President urged citizens to avoid divisive rhetoric and remain steadfast in the collective fight against insecurity.
“These times demand our humanity. We must stand together as one people and confront these criminals in unison. United, we can and must defeat them and reclaim peace and security in our communities,” he said.
