Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade in Lokoja have successfully foiled a bandit operation in Kogi State, neutralising three suspects and arresting one suspected logistics supporter.
Brigade spokesperson Lt. Hassan Abdullahi confirmed that the coordinated operation took place on Saturday, January 3, in Kabba Bunu and Yagba West Local Government Areas as part of ongoing efforts to curb banditry and kidnappings.
Ambushes and Arrests
Acting on credible intelligence about bandits moving from the Adankolo area, the troops set up ambushes near Agbadu Bunu, neutralising two bandits and recovering weapons including:
- An AK-47 rifle
- Ammunition
- A locally fabricated gun and cartridges
In a separate engagement around Saminaka village, one bandit was neutralised and another AK-47 rifle with ammunition was seized.
The Army also arrested a suspected logistics supplier, identified as Sunday Adedotun. Items recovered from his settlement included energy drinks, bottled water, soft drinks, and harvested farm produce, suggesting his role in supplying bandits. He is currently in custody and under investigation.
Lt. Abdullahi emphasized that these operations demonstrate sustained pressure on criminal networks, with Brigade Commander Brig.-Gen. Kasim Sidi commending troops for their professionalism and swift response to intelligence. He assured the public that aggressive patrols and operations will continue to deny criminals freedom of action in the state.
