Senator Kelvin Chukwu, representing Enugu East Senatorial District, has been captured on video physically assaulting a constituent during a football tournament organized by the lawmaker. The incident occurred on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at the final match of a competition that began in December 2025.
Exclusive footage obtained by SaharaReporters shows Chukwu, visibly angry, engaged in a heated exchange with the constituent before slapping him. Another video also shows one of the senator’s security aides assaulting the same individual. Despite the attack, the constituent was later arrested and detained.
A source familiar with the event stated, “Senator Kelvin Chukwu slapped one of the players in his village Christmas competition in Amurri after a little disagreement. For years, he has not done anything for the community. He came this December to organise a football competition because elections are close.”
Chukwu recently defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He had previously secured the LP ticket following the assassination of his elder brother, Oyibo Chukwu, on February 22, 2023. Chukwu went on to win the general election with 69,136 votes, defeating former Enugu State Governor Chimaroke Nnamani, who scored 48,701 votes.
The videos have sparked outrage, raising questions about accountability and the conduct of public officials during community events.
