Supporters of Engineer Kayode Ojo, a 2026 governorship aspirant on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform in Ekiti State, have accused the state government of “persistent intimidation, arrest, harassment, and unlawful detention” of party members backing Ojo. The campaign organisation, through spokesperson Femi Awojobi, described these actions as “a blemish on democracy, the rule of law, and internal party freedom in Ekiti State.”
The statement alleged that supporters were targeted simply for choosing to support a different aspirant within the same party. Several individuals, including Bayo Aderiye, Taiwo Fabiyi, and members of the APC ward executive in Ikoro-Ekiti, reportedly faced intimidation and detention. The campaign highlighted the arrest of Akogun Abayomi, also known as Lustay, on January 1, 2026, claiming he was held without explanation, access to his family, or legal counsel, raising concerns about abuse of police power.
According to the statement, officers of the Rapid Response Squad allegedly pressured Abayomi to renounce his support for Ojo—a demand he refused. The campaign accused Governor Abayomi Oyebanji of using intimidation and deregistration of party members to suppress dissent and called for urgent intervention from the Inspector-General of Police, senior lawyers, civil society organisations, and traditional leaders to prevent further abuse of political power in the state.
