Nollywood actress Bimbo Thomas has recounted a terrifying experience that nearly claimed her life during the filming of Omo Ghetto: The Saga (Part Two) in Ebute Metta, Lagos. The actress revealed that armed robbers attacked the hotel housing cast and crew members, an incident she described as deeply traumatic.
Speaking in an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Thomas explained that the attack appeared to be targeted at filmmaker and lead actress Funke Akindele. She suggested the incident may have been linked to an earlier confrontation between local hoodlums and members of the production team.
According to Thomas, the movie’s portrayal of street life attracted constant interference from local youths, forcing the team to reinforce security despite her familiarity with the area. “It’s my area. I thought they would respect me, but we still had to bring in security so we could work,” she said.
The robbery attempt reportedly occurred shortly before 1:00 a.m., after filming had ended. Thomas revealed that she had initially stayed at a different hotel but later joined Akindele at her insistence. Moments later, they heard loud banging and shouts, signaling an attack on the hotel.
As panic set in, the group began praying, believing Akindele was the main target. Efforts were made to hide her as the attackers allegedly called out her name. Eventually, Akindele was forced to come out, after which the assailants reportedly compelled her to sing and dance before dragging her downstairs.
Thomas disclosed that although only a few attackers entered the hotel, many more were stationed outside. The situation escalated until help arrived following calls to influential figures. Security operatives later intervened, forcing the attackers to flee.
Reflecting on the incident, Thomas said emotions nearly pushed her into a fatal decision. “I was ready to confront one of them without thinking. I could have been killed,” she admitted.
She added that some of the perpetrators were later arrested, while others were reportedly killed. Describing the ordeal as cruel and unforgettable, the actress expressed gratitude that everyone survived the night.
“We are truly grateful to God,” she concluded.
