Church Cancelled My Performance Over Shredded Jeans Outfit — Eben

Popular gospel singer Eben has revealed that a church once cancelled his scheduled performance after objecting to his appearance in shredded denim jeans on an album cover.

Speaking during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Eben said he was shocked and disappointed by the decision, noting that all arrangements for the church event had already been concluded before the objection was raised.

According to the singer, the issue arose when the church committee reviewed his album artwork and deemed his outfit unsuitable for a Christian minister, despite the jeans not being revealing or inappropriate.

“They had already invited me for their convention, and everything was arranged. Then they saw my album artwork where I wore a shredded denim jean,” Eben recounted.

He said the event organiser later contacted him, visibly upset, to explain that the committee could no longer accept him because of the outfit. “They said it wasn’t suitable for a Christian,” he added.

Reflecting on the incident, Eben—who has spent over two decades in ministry—said the experience highlighted how appearances are sometimes prioritised over faith, character, or message.

He urged churches to focus more on genuine worship and spiritual growth rather than outward appearance, stressing that true ministry is about leading people to God, not judging how someone dresses.
