PTAD Disburses N55.9 Billion for Pension Arrears

The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has successfully disbursed a total of N55.9 billion in pension payments and arrears to eligible pensioners and the next-of-kins of deceased pensioners under the Defined Benefits Scheme (DBS) for the month of December 2025.

The total disbursement includes N13.4 billion as monthly pensions for pensioners across all departments, including diaspora pensioners, and N42.5 billion as pension arrears. These payments address long-standing obligations stemming from several pension increments and unpaid benefits.

Details of the Disbursement

The arrears cover outstanding obligations from the N32,000.00 pension increment as well as the 10.66% and 12.95% pension increments. It also includes other accrued pension arrears, gratuity, and death benefits owed to eligible beneficiaries.

Here is the breakdown of the arrears payment across various pension departments:

  • Police Pension Department (PPD): N5.88 million to 5 pensioners.
  • Customs, Immigration and Prisons Pension Department (CIPPD): N604.33 million to 8,606 pensioners.
  • Civil Service Pension Department (CSPD): N16.36 billion to 71,643 pensioners.
  • Defunct and Transferred Agencies Department (DTAD): N15.07 billion to 24,995 pensioners.
  • Parastatals Pension Department (PaPD): N7.81 billion to 25,718 pensioners.
  • Tertiary Education and Health Department (TEHD): N2.37 billion to 28,245 pensioners.
  • Gratuity and Death Benefits: N289.11 million to the next-of-kin of deceased pensioners.

Status of Arrears

The payments have fully settled arrears from the N32,000.00 pension increment across all departments except for one month still outstanding for pensioners in the PaPD and TEHD departments.

Government’s Commitment to Pensioners

The Executive Secretary of PTAD, Tolulope Odunaiya, emphasized that the disbursements were in line with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to the welfare of senior citizens, which aligns with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. Odunaiya also assured pensioners that efforts were being made to settle the remaining arrears owed to PaPD and TEHD, reaffirming PTAD’s commitment to improving the welfare and well-being of DBS pensioners.

The government’s dedication to addressing pension-related issues reflects a deeper commitment to social justice and economic inclusion for Nigeria’s senior citizens, ensuring they receive their due benefits.
