EXCLUSIVE: Former Church Member Accuses Pastor Chris Okafor of Rape, Abandonment, and Child Sexual Assault

Lagos-based Pastor Chris Okafor, founder of Liberation City Church, is facing shocking allegations of rape, sexual assault, and family manipulation. A former church member, identified as Ama, has come forward with a harrowing testimony, detailing her experiences of abuse by the televangelist.

Ama, now 36, accuses Okafor of raping her at age 15, fathering a child he abandoned, and later sexually assaulting that child, Precious, during her teenage years.

The First Assault: A 15-Year-Old Choir Girl

Ama’s ordeal began in late 2004 when she was a 15-year-old member of Okafor’s church choir. She visited Okafor’s residence in Ojodu-Berger, Lagos, to deliver snails as an offering from her mother. After returning to collect them, Ama says Okafor invited her into his bedroom, where he sexually assaulted her.

“I was scared. I told him I hadn’t done this before,” Ama recalled. “He locked the door and forced me onto the bed. I lost consciousness. When I woke up, I was on the floor, bleeding.”

Religious Manipulation: ‘You Are My Wife’

In the aftermath of the assault, Ama says Okafor used his religious authority to manipulate her. He allegedly told her that the Holy Spirit had revealed she was meant to be his wife and showed her a note with the message: “Amarachi, you are my wife, says the Holy Spirit.”

Okafor reportedly warned her not to tell anyone, claiming that as a prophet, he was untouchable. Ama describes feeling overwhelmed with fear and confusion, unable to understand the gravity of what had just happened.

Pregnancy and Abortion Pressure

When Ama discovered she was pregnant, she confided in a relative. Okafor allegedly pressured her to abort the pregnancy, offering money for the procedure, but Ama refused. Fearing complications, she said, “I was scared. I told him I couldn’t do it.” Okafor allegedly reminded her that as a prophet, he would pray for her, assuring her that nothing would go wrong.

Despite the promise of marriage and family intervention, Ama’s mother eventually sent her to the village to stay with relatives, trying to protect her from further trauma.

Rape and Neglect of Their Child

Ama struggled for years to raise their daughter, Precious, without Okafor’s support. She sought help from him when Precious needed school fees, but instead of assistance, Ama alleges that Okafor sexually assaulted her again.

“I went to ask for my daughter’s school fees. The next thing I remember was being on the floor, my clothes were down. He apologized, saying he liked me and reminded me that no one could ever know,” Ama said.

Sexual Abuse of Precious

Ama’s fears for her daughter deepened when Precious came forward with disturbing allegations. The girl, at just 14 years old, told Ama that Okafor had sexually assaulted her during her time staying at his home.

Precious, who had been sent to live with Okafor under family pressure, eventually confided in her mother about how she was neglected and made to feel unwelcome. Precious reported that she was denied food, forced to leave the house, and had no place in the family.

Ama, devastated by the parallels between her own abuse and what her daughter was experiencing, made the decision to take Precious away from Okafor’s home to protect her.

“She told me that her father had been sexually assaulting her too,” Ama said, describing the moment as a traumatic revelation. “It was just like when I was 14.”

Seeking Justice After Two Decades

Ama, who kept silent for over 20 years, now speaks out to expose the abuse. “The fear I had back then was overwhelming, but now I am determined to speak the truth,” she said.

Despite her claims, Pastor Okafor has denied the allegations. His legal counsel, Ife Ajayi Esq., did not respond directly to the claims of rape and sexual assault but stated that Okafor had taken legal action against Ama, accusing her of malicious scheming.

Ajayi revealed that Okafor had lodged a formal complaint against Ama, and an investigation was ongoing. “We believe she will be summoned to present evidence as required by law,” Ajayi said.

Ongoing Controversies

Pastor Okafor’s legal and public controversies continue to mount. In December 2025, Nollywood actress Doris Ogala accused him of breaching a promise to marry her, seeking ₦1 billion in damages.

In another development, Chidera Okafor, who claims to be his daughter, released an audio clip alleging sexual advances by her father. Okafor has denied being her biological father and has demanded an apology, threatening legal action.

Additionally, Okafor’s ex-wife, Ms. Bessem, has come forward with allegations of domestic violence and child molestation. She has called for DNA tests to prove paternity, further adding to the scandal surrounding the pastor.

Police Investigation and Legal Actions

The Lagos State Police have confirmed that Pastor Okafor has been invited for investigation over allegations of rape and other sexual offenses. The State Criminal Investigation Department is conducting a thorough probe, with full protection and confidentiality assured for the alleged victims.

As the investigation continues, Ama and Precious remain hopeful that the truth will come to light and justice will be served.
