Creating Violence or Tension Won’t Suppress BJP, Says Tripura CM Manik Saha

Agartala, Tripura, January 7, 2026 — Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday delivered a robust message at a public gathering, asserting that attempts to create violence or unrest in the state will not weaken the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Speaking to a large crowd, Saha highlighted the party’s efforts to promote peaceful politics, integrate former extremist groups into mainstream society, and implement developmental schemes for the state’s indigenous communities. He further emphasised that regional opposition parties, despite attempts to create disturbances, cannot suppress the BJP’s growth in Tripura.

Addressing the gathering, CM Saha recalled that extremist organisations such as the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF)and the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) were once active in the state with the objective of suppressing the voice of the people. He stated that under BJP governance, these groups were gradually brought into mainstream society, contributing to peace and stability. “By creating tension and violence in this way, one of the largest national parties in the world, the Bharatiya Janata Party, cannot be suppressed. And the CPI(M) still uses various means to create divisions among the jaati and janajati,” he said.

Saha described the warm reception he received during his tour of the state, noting the large turnout of citizens from the janajati communities at Manu railway station. “Today, after getting down at the Manu railway station, I saw countless people, especially brothers and sisters from the janajati section, welcoming me on both sides of the road. I am very overwhelmed and very happy. People have faith and trust in our Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party. But many people from outside repeatedly say that we do not have any organisation among the janajati. People want peace, and peace has been established here. Various people-oriented schemes are being implemented for the janajati,” he said.

During his speech, Saha also criticised the efforts of regional parties to challenge the BJP’s influence in Tripura. He claimed that these parties were gradually losing ground and resorting to disruptive tactics, including protests, symbolic flag hoisting, and sabotage of local development activities. “I understand that they are gradually losing ground under their feet. Some try to stop us by demanding water, some by hoisting flags to inform us of their situation, and some by sabotaging our activities due to road problems or other means. But the more they hit us, the more we will hit them, according to the law. This kind of politics will not continue in Tripura,” he said.

Saha reiterated that violence and intimidation would not deter the BJP’s efforts to engage directly with the people. “The regional party cannot suppress the Bharatiya Janata Party by creating tension, beating people, and creating violence in this way. The Bharatiya Janata Party is not only strong in the country but also in the world. And this party is sometimes threatened that the national party and the Chief Minister will not be allowed to enter the ADC. But the more we are told not to enter, the more we will go inside. We will go to every house,” he declared.

The CM also shared data from a party membership drive, highlighting the growing support for the BJP in Tripura. According to Saha, around 755 families joined the party during this particular event. He noted that the turnout exceeded expectations, stating that “I was initially told that 1,868 people would join today. Instead, 2,499 tribal brothers and sisters have joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. The Bharatiya Janata Party is getting stronger day by day. The progress of the janajatis cannot be stopped by hoisting flags, organising water agitations, or spreading lies. The Communists have also carried out such movements in the name of the Jana Sikkha Andolan.”

A key component of Saha’s address focused on government schemes and budget allocations for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) regions. Responding to allegations that the BJP had not allocated sufficient funds to the ADC areas, Saha cited the state government’s budget for the financial year 2024‑25, noting that 39.06 percent of the state’s budget had been earmarked for TTAADC development. He argued that despite this allocation, opposition parties were claiming that no funds had been provided, which he dismissed as misleading.

“The state government has allocated 39.06 percent of the state budget to the TTAADC in the financial year 2024‑25. But still they say that we do not give money. So where did this money go? Today, there is no development in ADC areas. The people’s enthusiasm in this meeting proves that the Bharatiya Janata Party will win 28 out of 28 seats in the TTAADC,” Saha said. He projected strong electoral outcomes for the BJP in upcoming elections, emphasising the party’s commitment to the welfare and development of tribal communities.

Saha’s address also highlighted the party’s broader philosophy of inclusive governance and peaceful political engagement. By referencing the integration of former extremist groups and the government’s ongoing welfare initiatives, the CM sought to portray the BJP as a party capable of stabilising Tripura’s social and political environment. At the same time, his remarks underscored the challenges posed by entrenched opposition parties attempting to disrupt development work and sow division.

Observers note that Saha’s speech fits within a larger political strategy to consolidate BJP support among the janajati communities and ensure strong performance in the TTAADC elections. By emphasising both developmental initiatives and the party’s ability to maintain law and order in historically volatile areas, the CM sought to project an image of political strength, social stability, and grassroots connectivity.

Saha’s statements also implicitly addressed concerns about the potential for unrest and intimidation during election cycles in Tripura. By asserting that the BJP would not be deterred by violence, sabotage, or attempts to create communal or political tension, he sent a message both to opposition parties and to the state’s electorate. His repeated references to legal adherence and direct engagement with the people reinforced the party’s commitment to functioning within the framework of law and democracy.

The CM concluded by reaffirming the BJP’s vision for the northeastern state, emphasizing that the party’s efforts were not limited to electoral gains but extended to tangible social and economic development. This included the implementation of welfare schemes targeting education, infrastructure, health, and livelihood opportunities for indigenous communities. The CM’s narrative highlighted a dual focus on governance and political strategy, reflecting the BJP’s broader approach to strengthening its presence in northeastern India.

In summary, Manik Saha’s speech in Tripura underscores the BJP’s efforts to maintain political dominance in the state while promoting development and social inclusion. His remarks reflected confidence in the party’s ability to withstand opposition challenges, integrate former insurgents into mainstream society, and deliver welfare schemes to historically marginalised communities. As Saha projected the BJP’s continued growth and commitment to the people, his address reinforced the party’s image as a stabilising force in Tripura’s political landscape.
