Troops Raid Kidnappers’ Hideout, Kill Suspects After Attempted Disarmament in Plateau

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 3 Division/Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE (JTF OPEP) have neutralised suspects linked to kidnapping and armed robbery following a raid in Kadarko District, Wase Local Government Area.

The operation took place on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, near Lantom Village, after intelligence indicated the presence of kidnappers terrorising local communities.

According to Captain Joshua Atu John, Acting Military Information Officer for JTF OPEP, four suspects were arrested during the initial raid. They later disclosed the location of a hidden cache of arms and ammunition on the outskirts of Kadarko.

“While leading troops to the hidden cache, the suspects attempted a desperate move by trying to snatch the weapon of one of the soldiers in a bid to escape but were decisively neutralised by troops,” the statement said.

Recovered items from the raid included a locally fabricated rifle, an axe, and a machete. Two other members of the gang reportedly escaped with an AK-47 rifle. Follow-up operations are ongoing to apprehend them.

Major General EF Oyinlola, General Officer Commanding 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander of JTF ENDURING PEACE, commended the troops for their professionalism and reassured residents of the military’s commitment to restoring peace.

The military called on law-abiding citizens to support security efforts by providing timely and credible information.
