AFCON ’25: Super Eagles’ Bonuses Approved, Payments in Progress — Dikko

The Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Shehu Dikko, has confirmed that all financial entitlements for Super Eagles players and officials for AFCON 2025 have been approved and are being processed for payment.

Dikko’s remarks followed reports that players were threatening to boycott training and travel to Marrakech ahead of Saturday’s match against Algeria.

“The president approved the entire AFCON budget on November 14, 2025. From our end, the funding has been fully cleared,” Dikko told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), clarifying that while approval and processing are distinct steps, the funds have indeed been sanctioned.

He added that meetings were held with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), team captain, co-captain, and senior players to finalize tournament bonuses. “We sat down, negotiated, and agreed on what the players are entitled to up to the final. Everybody is clear,” Dikko said.

According to the NSC Chairman, the players were aware of their incentives before the tournament began, with daily allowances already paid in cash and match bonuses currently being processed.

“The only cash request was daily allowances, and that has been sorted and made available. The bonuses have been approved. The process is ongoing, and the money will come,” he emphasized.

Dikko assured that the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) were coordinating to ensure timely disbursement of all entitlements.

The Super Eagles have won all their matches so far, scoring 12 goals en route to the quarter-finals. They are set to face Algeria’s Desert Foxes for a semi-final spot, departing Fès for Marrakech on Thursday ahead of the blockbuster encounter at the Stade de Marrakech on Saturday at 5 p.m.
