Afrobeats star Oxlade has advised performing artists to always conduct thorough sound checks before shows, following a problematic gig in London.
The singer, who was headlining alongside Bella Shmurda, revealed that organisers failed to provide a proper sound check, leading to poor audio quality for the audience.
Taking to X, Oxlade reminded fellow artists that while organisers can improve, performers also bear responsibility for their shows. He stressed that a proper sound check is crucial to understand the venue’s setup and avoid disastrous performances.
“Dear performing artist, I know organisers can do better with the equipment required to run a show. But please, don’t perform anywhere without a proper sound check. It’s from the sound check that you know your fate… I did a gig in London—my first headline event—without one. The monitors on stage were okay, but the audience speakers were terrible. It was the worst event I’ve performed at. A word is enough,” he wrote.
Oxlade’s advice highlights the importance of preparation, ensuring that both artists and fans have the best experience possible during live shows.
