Churu, Rajasthan: A 35-year-old woman constable in Rajasthan’s Churu district has alleged that she was raped over the past eight years by four men, including three police personnel, officials confirmed on Thursday. A medical examination conducted following her complaint to the district Superintendent of Police (SP) has confirmed that sexual assault took place.
Allegations Span Eight Years
According to the complaint, the first incident of assault occurred in 2017. At the time, the woman was posted at Sardarshahar police station. She alleges that a police constable and an electricity department staffer, whom she had met during official duties, invited her to a location, provided her with alcohol, and subsequently raped her.
The woman claims that the assaults continued for several years. When she was transferred to another station in Sidhmukh town in 2023, her new immediate superiors—the Station House Officer (SHO) and a constable—became aware of her prior encounters with the earlier assailants. She alleges that they began threatening her and joined in the sexual assault, which reportedly continued until 2025.
Delay in Reporting
The woman reportedly approached the SP, Jai Yadav, only last week, citing fear of retaliation and lack of faith in reporting the matter to her superiors over the years. “Although the rape is confirmed, we are yet to ascertain the veracity of the allegations against the accused she named. We are questioning her along with the other accused,” said Additional SP Richpal Singh.
Confirmation of Rape
A medical examination conducted after her complaint substantiated the occurrence of rape. Singh clarified that while the medical findings confirm sexual assault, the investigation is ongoing to establish the culpability of the individuals named by the woman.
Investigation Underway
Authorities have begun questioning the victim and the accused. The case involves multiple accused, including serving police officers, and spans several years, which makes the investigation particularly sensitive and complex. Officials have emphasized that the inquiry will follow due process to ensure justice.
Public and Legal Implications
The allegations have raised concerns about abuse of power within law enforcement, particularly in cases where victims are themselves members of the police force. Activists and legal experts highlight that such cases demand rigorous, impartial investigations to uphold the rule of law and protect whistleblowers and complainants within institutions.
The investigation in Churu is ongoing, and authorities have assured that all steps will be taken to verify the claims and hold the accused accountable under the law.
