The Nigerian police have apprehended one of two brothers accused of fatally strangling their father in Adamawa State, SaharaReporters has confirmed.
The arrested suspect has been identified as David ThankGod, while his younger brother, Joshua ThankGod, remains at large.
Adamawa State Police Command spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, told SaharaReporters that David was arrested outside the state in Jalingo, Taraba State, and confirmed that efforts to apprehend Joshua are ongoing.
The incident, reported earlier on January 3, shocked residents of Numan town, where the brothers allegedly killed their father, Ogar ThankGod, a prominent businessman, in the early hours at his Gwe-da-Mallam residence.
Sources said the suspects, aged 23 and 25, allegedly committed the act following a long-standing family dispute that had previously been reported to the police. SP Nguroje added that the brothers were called back from Lagos by their sister to resolve the conflict, which tragically escalated into the fatal incident.
“The matter was already a police case before the unfortunate incident,” the police spokesperson noted.
The killing has left the community in shock, with residents describing it as one of the most harrowing family tragedies in recent memory. The police have assured that investigations are ongoing and that the remaining suspect will be brought to justice.
