Wizkid Becomes First African Artist to Surpass 10 Billion Streams on Spotify

Nigerian music superstar Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has made history as the first African artist to surpass 10 billion streams on Spotify.

As of January 2026, Wizkid leads the list of Africa’s most-streamed artists on the platform, with Burna Boy close behind at over 9.5 billion streams. Rema ranks third with 5.6 billion, followed by Tems at more than 4.4 billion. South African singer Tyla has 3.7 billion streams, while Nigerian star Ayra Starr has 3.3 billion.

Wizkid reached this milestone after more than a decade of global hits. Notably, Drake’s collaboration “One Dance” contributed nearly 4 billion streams, while Wizkid’s own “Essence” featuring Tems added over 334 million streams.

His third studio album, Made In Lagos Deluxe, is his most-streamed project on Spotify, amassing over one billion streams, and “Essence” remains his top track as a lead artist.

In other Spotify news, American singer Billie Eilish has broken a separate record with “Birds Of A Feather,” which has now become the most-streamed solo song by a female artist on the platform, surpassing Tones and I’s “Dance Monkey” with 3.37 billion streams.
