The Bola Tinubu administration plans to spend N3.3 billion on vehicle procurement and replacement in 2026, according to the 2026 budget proposal:
- N2.5 billion: Procurement of State House operational vehicles.
- N758 million: Replacement of SUVs.
- N115 million: Purchase of tyres for bullet-proof vehicles, SUVs, ambulances, and other operational vehicles.
For comparison, the 2025 budget allocated N3.6 billion for operational vehicles and N1 billion for SUV replacements.
Historical context:
- In 2024, the Presidency spent N366 million on tyres in just three days.
- Between August 18 and September 9, 2024, N5.1 billion was reportedly spent on vehicle purchases, including Toyota Prado vehicles at N212 million each.
The continued spending on vehicles and SUVs has drawn attention amid calls for prudence in government expenditure, particularly given the high cost of armoured vehicles and associated maintenance.
