Tinubu Administration to Spend N6bn on Presidential Jet Engine Overhaul, N1.5bn on Aviation Fuel in 2026 Budget

The Federal Government has earmarked N6 billion in the 2026 budget for the overhaul of aircraft engines within the Presidential Air Fleet (PAF), according to a detailed review of the budget document.

A breakdown of the allocation shows that N3.859 billion has been set aside for the engine overhaul of the presidential jet with registration number 5N-FGW. The aircraft has been identified as a Gulfstream G550 business jet (Serial Number 5310), which forms a core component of the Presidential Air Fleet operated by the Nigerian Air Force.

In addition to the Gulfstream jet, the government has budgeted N2.19 billion for the engine overhaul of two Falcon 7X aircraft, bringing the total projected expenditure on engine maintenance to N6 billion for the 2026 fiscal year.

Beyond engine overhauls, the budget also allocates N1.2 billion for general aircraft maintenance and N1.5 billion for aviation fuel for the presidential fleet.

Earlier budget analysis revealed that President Bola Tinubu plans to spend N6.1 billion on international travel in 2026, listed under State House Operations – President. An additional N873 million has been earmarked for local travel within the same period.

Vice President Kashim Shettima is expected to spend N1.3 billion on foreign travel, bringing the combined international travel budget for both officials to N7.4 billion in 2026.

Recently, President Tinubu departed Lagos for Europe as part of his end-of-year break, ahead of an official visit to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The trip, according to the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, follows an invitation from UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to attend the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Summit (ADSW 2026).

The Presidency described the summit as a global platform that convenes leaders from government, business, and civil society to shape strategies for sustainable development. The President is expected to return to Nigeria after the event.

Further examination of the 2026 budget also shows that N375 million has been allocated for foodstuffs and catering supplies for the Presidency during the fiscal year.

Although comprehensive data on international travel spending in 2025 remains unavailable, a previous review of the Open Treasury Portal revealed that the Tinubu administration spent approximately N36.3 billion on international travel in 2024.

That figure included N12.2 billion for international travel and transport related to training and N24.19 billion for other international travel expenses. Local travel costs were also significant, with N47 billion spent on local travel and transport across training and other categories during the same period.
