The Oyo State Police Command has announced a statewide enforcement exercise targeting unmarked vehicles, fake or defaced number plates, and motorcyclists who conceal their faces while riding.
The operation, approved by the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, is scheduled to begin on Monday as part of the Command’s proactive, intelligence-driven approach to crime prevention.
According to the Police, the exercise will focus on vehicles without valid registration numbers, as well as cars and motorcycles using covered, defaced, fake, dealer, or unauthorised number plates. Motorcyclists who wear hoods or masks to hide their identities while riding will also be targeted.
The Command warned that offenders will be arrested, their vehicles impounded, and prosecuted after due investigation.
Police authorities explained that the crackdown follows intelligence reports showing that criminal elements increasingly rely on unmarked and disguised vehicles to evade law enforcement and carry out illegal activities.
Earlier, CP Haruna held engagements with commercial motorcyclists across the state, cautioning that any motorcycle used for criminal purposes would attract severe sanctions. He also urged riders to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely intelligence, assuring them of confidentiality and prompt police action.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to routine stop-and-search operations, checkpoints, and intelligence-led patrols as essential tools for maintaining public safety.
Residents were advised to remain alert, comply with traffic and safety regulations, and report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station.
