The Nigerian Police have arrested six suspected kidnappers and rescued three abducted victims during a joint security operation in Nasarawa State.
Police operatives attached to the Assakio Division in Lafia East Development Area, working alongside local vigilante groups, carried out the operation after receiving distress calls from residents of Angara and Fadaman Bauna communities.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the operation followed a complaint lodged on January 7, reporting that armed kidnappers had invaded Angara village, abducted two women, and later seized a man, leaving behind a baby.
“Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, immediately ordered a manhunt for the suspects,” Nansel said in a statement released in Lafia.
He explained that coordinated patrols and intelligence gathering led security operatives to the kidnappers’ hideouts within nearby forests, where the suspects were apprehended and the victims rescued alive.
“The rescued victims—two females and one male—were found unharmed. They were given immediate medical attention and have since been reunited with their families,” the police spokesman confirmed.
Nansel added that the suspects have allegedly confessed to their involvement in the crime and have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.
He assured residents that the police command remains committed to combating kidnapping and other criminal activities across Nasarawa State, stressing that security agencies will continue to work closely with communities to safeguard lives and property.
The successful operation comes amid growing concerns over kidnapping incidents in parts of central Nigeria, reinforcing the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and local communities.
